The Story
-------------
The Philippines are a nation in need of great support following Typhoon Haiyan. Prior to the disaster, there was already much need and even regions not directly hit by the typhoon are affected by the catastrophe.

Clutching At Straws are a multi-talented alternative folk quartet from the ‘creative county’ of Staffordshire with a deep attachment to the Philippines through YWAM. Over a year ago, before the typhoon hit, Clutching At Straws had decided to release a charity EP to raise money for Gusa, a shanty community located within the Metropolis of Cagayan de Oro. Although not directly affected by the disaster, the need there is now even more pressing and it is in danger of being overlooked. The money raised will transform and save lives.

Gusa is divided by a river, spanned by a bridge made of bamboo. As a result of regular flooding, the bridge has to be completely rebuilt several times a year. When the bridge is not in action many from the community are prevented from going to work and children are prevented from going to school. In a community so needy, this is very costly. It inhibits their efforts towards securing themselves a better future. A permanent bridge would be transformative, allowing consistent work and thus income, schooling and better access to resources.

Clutching At Straws are partnering together with WildFire (KKi England) who are part of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) to raise money to build a permanent bridge in the Gusa community. To do so, Clutching At Straws are releasing an EP entitled Bamboo Bridge and are donating all proceeds from its digital and physical sales towards ensuring that all of the inhabitants of Gusa are able to cross the river all year round.

Money raised will allow the purchase of materials for a permanent bridge and will employ local labourers from the community, under the guidance of an architect, to build the bridge themselves, complementing the can-do spirit already owned by the people of Gusa.

Any money raised above the amount needed to build a permanent bridge in Gusa will be used in the continuing rehabilitation effort of WildFire and YWAM following Typhoon Haiyan.
